Questions people ask.
- Is this an official Adobe product?
- No. Photoshop MCP is an independent, community-maintained open-source project. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Adobe. Photoshop is a trademark of Adobe Inc.
- Do I need an API key?
- Not for the MCP server itself — it runs locally. Your client (Cursor, Claude Desktop, VS Code…) already talks to a model. The standalone Web UI needs either a provider API key or a Claude Code account.
- Which Photoshop versions work?
- Photoshop 2012 through 2025 on macOS and Windows. Some tools need newer versions: Select Subject needs 23+, WebP/AVIF export needs 23.2+, generative tools need a Firefly-enabled Photoshop and an Adobe account with credits.
- Does it use Firefly credits?
- Only the generative tools (fill, remove, expand, upscale, sky replacement, image generation) do, and only when you ask for them. Everything else is regular Photoshop automation.
- Where does my data go?
- Photoshop commands run on your machine. Your images never leave it unless your own model provider receives a preview you asked for. The server sends anonymous usage events by default; set ANALYTICS_DISABLED=1 to turn them off.
- Why can't I use it from ChatGPT or claude.ai in the browser?
- Browser assistants only accept remote connectors, and Photoshop lives on your computer. Use a desktop client, or the Web UI, which runs locally.
